I have been umpires liason for a while now and our umpires resources have been gradually eroded over the years . We need more volunteers to umpire regularly.
How do you become an umpire ?
Sam Durdle is willing to run sessions to help with many facets of umpiring ( signals , positioning , rules interpretation etc ,etc) over the summer - more details at later date .
If you are interested in umpiring then please contact me at brantc@talktalk,net or 07796257850
to register interest .
In preparation it would be useful to know the rules!
Firstly you need to go to the England Hockey website , englandhockey.co.uk . In the search box type in " rules of hockey" then click on the outdoor rules section where there will be several modules to go through and complete . These need to be done before progressing to the level 1 umpiring course which will then allow you to umpire lower club games in the future as a Level 1 unassessed umpire.
There is a cost to the umpiring course but the club will refund this money once you have completed the course and have umpires 3 league games for the club .
