Old Southendians 2 – 1 Chelmsford
In a fiercely contested local derby, Old Southendians secured a deserved 2-1 win at home in a competitive match against Chelmsford.
The opening goal came in the first half after sustained pressure in the Chelmsford D. A penalty flick was awarded when a Chelmsford defender forgot he was playing hockey and opted to kick the ball on the line. Alfie stepped up confidently and slotted the flick to put the Old Boys 1-0 up at the break.
The second half saw Old Southendians continue to push, especially down the right-hand side. A flowing move found Giles in the corner, who drove into the D. With two players available for a pass, he chose to take responsibility himself, lifting a composed finish over the keeper to double the lead.
Chelmsford responded soon after. A fierce shot was initially saved by John, who took it square on the head, but the ball unfortunately dropped behind him and rolled into the goal, bringing the score to 2-1.
From there, Old Southendians defended with discipline and composure, closing down play and preventing Chelmsford from finding any late momentum. The final whistle confirmed a strong 2-1 victory for the Old Boys.
