Match Report: Old Southendians 2–1 St Albans

St Albans scored within the first 10 seconds after catching us off guard and finding johns weakness. The middle of the goal.

After that, the old boys settled in to the system they have been playing over the last few weeks which has really started to gel and is proving effective.

St Albans had a lot of possession in the first half however the old boys maintained there discipline and were awarded with a short corner which Ben dispatched up high.

Another corner and another flick for Ben, sadly he tried to go low but was stopped. Just shows he is much worse when he tries to aim.

Back to his normal sling it hard approach and the old boys were rewarded with another goal. Interestingly he used the same approach with aerials sending the ball
Out of the cage.

Cal Liddell produced the cleanest reverse air shot seen in Southend this season. Full commitment. Big swing. Impressive follow-through. Zero ball involvement.

Giles put in a heroic shift beating 4 of the StAlbans players (even their striker wanted to see him bury it top
Bins) but sadly ran out of gas. Similar scenes towards the end with another solo run - this time being beaten by an impressive save

Jacket of shame goes to yours truly for a moment of petulance when after dribbling off the pitch I re set the ball for St Albans realising my mistake promptly threw it away. I did make up for it with some trademark sliding tackles however.

Credit to the boys for turning up and getting on with it despite things outside of our control.

Final score: 2–1 to Old Boys a solid performance of discipline and trusting the system. The VPs didn’t agree as “back in their day” it would have been different
