Old Southendians vs Chelmsford

Connor Andrews

5-0 win on the road

Old Southendians 5-0 Chelmsford

Local Derby? More like a one-sided affair!

The Old Boys were back on the road this weekend, travelling to Chelmsford for a local derby clash, and there was no shortage of action, goals and a little bit of drama!

The Old Boys got off to a flying start, with a well-worked short corner routine seeing Giles deflect the ball into Billy’s path, who made no mistake in finding the back of the net. Ben then followed suit shortly afterwards, converting another short corner to give the Old Boys a comfortable 2-0 lead at half time.

Chelmsford came out fighting in the second half, perhaps a little too literally, with some heavy challenges flying in and the cards soon making an appearance. One of those challenges resulted in a penalty flick, and up stepped Alfie, who calmly slotted it away to make it 3-0.

Some well worked hockey found us attacking the D again and a ball in along the base line to Billy found the back of the net for a second deflection from a very tight angle making it 4-0

Then came the goal of the match! Haythan picked up the ball around halfway and set off on a mission towards the Chelmsford D. After a couple of neat passes, he received the ball again, skipped past another few defenders and unleashed a reverse-stick strike from the top of the D, finding the back of the net. His first goal for the First Team! The entire squad piled over to celebrate, making sure the occasion was one to remember. 5-0!

Giles wasn’t finished there, winning another penalty flick after being rugby tackled at the top of the D , which Billy fancied his chances of converting. Billy, already on two goals and clearly fancying a hat-trick, stepped up to take it. Standing over the ball with all the poise and confidence of a man who had already scored twice, he waited for the whistle, struck the ball… and dragged it wide!

A hat-trick was denied, the keeper barely had to move, and Billy promptly earned himself the Jacket of Shame. Hockey can be a cruel game!

The final whistle blew, confirming a fantastic 5-0 away victory for the Old Boys in the local derby. Five goals, a clean sheet and a memorable first First Team goal for Haythan. Not a bad afternoon’s work!

Final Score: Chelmsford 0-5 Old Southendians

? MOM: Haythan – A fantastic first First Team goal and an all-round performance.

? JOS: Billy – Two goals were great, but missing the hat-trick flick was unforgivable!
