With 10 and ½ men becoming the new normal for the 2s away from home, this week saw the old boys travelling to Maldon. Looking to build on back to back clean sheets and 5 wins in 5, it was another dominant performance with Maldon’s only real threat coming from an ariel bombardment that was calmly dealt with by the new look back line. The spoils were shared with Millane, Jury, Jesus, Summers and Waters all getting on the score sheet but in truth the score line would have been double had it not been for a solid performance from the Maldon GK. Man of the match was awarded to Jesus for his efforts both on and off the ball, running relentlessly to cover for his injured teammates. Special mentions to Mike Millane for a fantastic solo goal, beating half the Maldon team to eventually sit the goalkeeper down and calmly slot the ball into an open net and to Asa Nash, who didn’t shy away from an individual battle with hockey’s own version of Harvey Elliot. Despite a lot of poor chat, it eventually got too much for the Maldon right winger, subbing himself off for the last 15 minutes of the game to witness the Old Boys in full flow. Jacket of shame was not so tightly contested, convincingly won by our glorious leader, who kindly gifted Maldon their first goal in the opening 5 minutes with what could barely be described as an attempted arial straight to the oppo centre forward.
