A strong second half!

A 4.30pm late pushback at Warners Bridge set the scene for a challenging afternoon as the Men’s 4s welcomed Chelmsford 5s. The visitors started brightly and applied sustained early pressure, putting the 4s on the back foot. Despite heroic efforts from Richard Boucher in goal – producing a string of outstanding saves to keep the scoreline in check – Chelmsford eventually found their way through. Defensive resilience and last-ditch tackles delayed the inevitable, but by half time the 4s trailed 3–0, a scoreline that could have been far worse without some strong defensive moves.
The second half told a very different story. The 4s emerged far more composed, moving the ball with greater confidence and intent. The younger players in the side made a real impact, making some excellent leading runs that stretched the Chelmsford defence and opened up space across the pitch. This renewed energy was rewarded when Dylan finished well to pull a goal back and give the home side belief.
Momentum continued to build, and the comeback gathered further pace when Giles converted an excellent short corner, expertly executed to make it 3–2. At this stage the 4s looked the stronger side, pressing high and forcing Chelmsford into errors.
Unfortunately, as the 4s pushed forward in search of an equaliser, Chelmsford managed to catch them on the break and added a fourth goal to restore their two-goal cushion. Despite continued effort and a strong finish from the home side, the final whistle went with the score at 4–2.
While the result did not fall their way, the second-half performance at Warners Bridge was full of positives, particularly the composure shown by the younger players and the standout goalkeeping display from Boucher. With a more consistent performance across both halves, the 4s will feel confident that better results are not far away.
