Guglielmo Giovanni Maria Marconi, 1st Marquess of Marconi was born on 25 April 1874. He shared the 1909 Nobel prize in physics with Ferdinand braun. He is of course widely credited as the inventor of radio.

While in the United Kingdom, Marconi gained the interest and support of William Preece (Preecey/boy band- any connection?!), the Chief Electrical Engineer of the General Post Office (GPO). Marconi applied for a patent on 2 June 1896. British Patent number 12039, titled "Improvements in Transmitting Electrical impulses and Signals, and in Apparatus therefor", became the first patent for a communication system based on radio waves.

He established himself in Chelmsford; his first factory opening in 1898. The remnants of the early Marconi sites are visible on a hill over South Woodham Ferrers and in Galleywood to this day and the connection between Marconi and Chelmsford is still one that everyone makes.

Given, therefore, how good the reception should be in Chelmsford, I hope they have tuned in and are receiving this message loud and clear- we are coming for you.

Don’t be fooled by the score, this was not a 5-0 game. We missed some golden chances (Beardo for one chose to make a hero out of the Chelmsford keeper) and they took their chances clinically. That notwithstanding, for more than half the game I think we were the better team.

Our improvement week on week has been amazing and again today we took a massive step forward. Billy was great on both wings today. Jack had a great game having switched from right to left back, Riley was back to his imperious best, Johnny pulled off some fantastic saves and Lucas, Stanley and Jannick gave it their usual impressive all. Ryan was, however, yet again the stand out with an incredible display of running and commitment. A worthy MoM for the second week in a row.

We are so close to where we want to be and the effort from everyone going in to getting us there is awesome. I am frustrated we need to wait another week to play again.

Today was the benchmark. I will die on this hill: we will go to Chelmsford and beat them in the return the leg. Broadcast that Guglielmo Giovanni Maria Marconi, 1st Marquess of Marconi!
