As we drew up to the clubhouse to meet, the early rain had just stopped, but by the time we got on the pitch it was raining again. We started well putting pressure on them and keeping their defensive circle, we gained a short or two in the process, one where the wind must have sucked Jen’s strike to above the backboard. Not long after she redeemed herself by opening the scoresheet. Emily earned her award here by swearing at the lady with the blue gumshield, who had her knickers in a twist and I think needed this reality check. The first half continued our onslaught with only a few forays into our half from the speedy forwards, but Ros and Shireen had Sue locked down. As the half neared its end Martha skillfully added to scoresheet and we were 2-0 at halftime.
A quick turnaround and back to attacking with Grace showing her selflessness in distributing the ball, Emily collected one such pass dribbled it into the circle and thwack 3-0. Minutes later a surge up the left flank was recycled across the pitch to find Jemima on the right, smash 4-0. With our whole team buzzing and Suzanne running out of space on her pad we had more time in their circle where it seemed to ping off everyone and the keeper valiantly trying to keep it out, Suzie hit the final blow to make it 5-0.
Chelmsford had a few runs into our half which were mostly shutdown, but sneaky Sue slipped through and netted one back 5-1. We rallied and this time a run up the right wing gifted Paige a crack at goal, 6-1. The final whistle blew the sun was shining and the team effort glowed off every player. All that was left was teas, wedges and beans with all the trimmings courtesy of Ros and some super home baked treats from Suzie.
