What do you call an heroic team with a bare 11 that fights a squad of 15 to the final whistle, narrowly missing out on a point?

To our immense dismay, Waltham Forest seem to have picked up a couple of new (very capable) players since we last played them. But it made for a really good game with some excellent hockey played by both teams.
They went ahead in the first 20 minutes with 2 clinically executed goals but it was definitely not all one way traffic and a bit of Emily McCarthy magic in the D gave us our first. We then efficiently turned over their restart and won a penalty corner which Emmeline struck beautifully into the net to give us 2 goals in 2 minutes just before half time and Forest weren't sure what had hit them.
The second half was a battle of attrition and we kept at them in waves (they may be able to stop one wave but not the whole ocean was this week's mantra) until a positive tsunami up the pitch found Darcey slotting one home from an absolutely impossible angle that defied physics.
But our dreams were to be shattered as the tired legs in the September sunshine caught up with us and we just could not keep them out. First they equalised and then with the clock running down they scored the winner.
We had bravely played as a Team with all 11 of us doing the very best we could and a Captain cannot ask for anything more. Our coaches would have been very proud of our passing, our triangles and our quick releases. And our waves.
And win, lose or draw (we have done all three) we are really enjoying our hockey
