After a very stressful week of illness and fractured ankles we managed to get a 12-player squad out although some were required to double and we thank all those that did.
We started confidently after finding out that S and B had injured their captain and keeper who was a limiting factor in our last run out.
Three minutes in Paige passed the ball across the goalmouth for Polly to slot in. Following that Paige had a straight strike and Darcey got in on the action. Before we had noticed Emmeline had subbed on for Darcey and scored two including a reverse tomahawk she had been practicing all week. Abi concluded the first half scoring, and we got to half time 6-0 up.
After a buoyant half time chat with lots of constructive comments we started the second half. We didn’t need to wait long, just over a minute, and Paige added to the scoreline. Shortly after she did it again taking her tally for the season to 14 making her joint top goalscorer in the club. Polly finished the scoring earning herself Player of the Match. We didn’t stop trying though Darcey had a few unlucky moments in the circle resulting in the Silly Salamander award.
On one of Witham’s few ventures into our half a wild stick caught Max across her left eye giving her some time off the pitch due to head injury rules, many thanks to our seasoned supporters, Tom and Zoe coming to ensure she wasn’t alone and Elmo going through the concussion questions. Such a great team effort liv linked up with Sam who linked with Polly up the left-hand side and Kiera, Paige and Sophie worked well together up the right. Emmeline, Elmo, Abi and Darcey bossed the middle.
Finally, to thank Ali for doubling in goal for us when we were so short this week. The new year brings a Friday night fracas between the 4s and 5s come along to this Family affair.
