Silly Salamander: Paige

After a long break for Christmas no hockey played in over a month and a cancelled training due to the cold snap, we were on edge if the match would go ahead. It had been so long since a match Paige’s equipment had wandered off, leaving her having to borrow shoes and play with no shinpads, this was the offence that gained her the silly salamander award.
Each side had an even 12 to reduce the amount of time the sub would be subjected to the cold. We had a welcome visitor to the squad in Bella playing her only game of the season, while other 4s players bolstered the 5s squad.
Starting strong we fought against the cold and the 5s testing Alis pads in goal and after 11 minutes Paige snuck one around her. A mere 2 minutes later she did it again, Darcey got a couple in before the half time whistle. Whilst Suzie snuck away from her marker and slipped one past sue. Half time score of 4-1 a constructive but short chat at half time, can we have more of the same?
It only took only eight minutes for Paige to break through their defences in the second half. Darcey then took her chance to finish her hattrick. Cris got the final touch on a cross to add to the scoring. Madison made a run from the halfway line to the circle to add her name to the scoresheet. The final goal was another tight angle shot from Paige to put her on four and consolidate her Player of the match status.
As always the game was played in the most generous way by both teams, absolutely delightful to be part of these teams hugs all round at the end and a delicious beige buffet to warm us up.
