October 4th saw the ladies 5XI take a trip to Chelmer Park to play against Chelmsford 7. Their 6XI had already conceded against our ladies 3s so we weren't sure whether some of them had dropped into their 7s but just in case, we went armed with some former team mates who had progressed through the ranks! During the warm up we heard that the 4s were winning their match 12 - 0 (at this point) so that put us in a positive frame of mind. Having won the toss and gaining first push back, the match started very well as within 2 minutes, Suzie had scored. We reset and then 5 minutes later, Super Suzie struck again and banged the ball in the back of the net  - 2-0 up and we had hardly broken into a sweat. Chelmsford made a bit of a comeback but didn't really threaten us at this point, and Ali remained unchallenged. Our ladies hockey debutant this week , Liberty Pace, decided to get a piece of the action and successfully scored our 3rd goal with 15 minutes left until half time. Chelmsford upped their game and our defence were caught napping as we left Ali to a 1 on 1 with a girl in green, who put the ball into the corner. Whilst this may have lifted Chelmsford, their elation was short lived as Alexis Johnson-Adams had increased our goal tally within the next minute. Suzie was clearly feeling a bit redundant at this point, so for good measure, just to buoy us up before half time, she smacked another goal past their keeper and we ate our sweets and oranges knowing that Chelmsford had a long way to come back from 5-1 down. However, we could not be complacent or assume anything. The green team came out fighting and had soon scored their second goal, which  caught us by surprise. Determined to keep the ball back in our half, we upped the offensive and there were some great scoring opportunites. The mids and forwards were taking it in turns to strike and Gracie found the perfect shot, with our sixth goal coming to pass. At this point, having seen her sister score in the first half and others being successful in the goal fest, Poppie made her way up the pitch from LB, dodging Chelmsford players as she went and nearly lined up for a shot before being dispossessed of the ball an retreating back to deep defence. Meanwhile, keeping the momentum up and using any possible chance to aim at goal Suzie thwarted the keeper for a final time making the result a very impressive 7 - 2 to us! As we sat in the Chelmsford clubhouse eating chicken casserole and watching Chelmsford Hockey Club tv, and listening to Mr Holmes' match analysis, we voted Suzie, Abigail and Libby our Players of the Match. Stephanie was last seen wearing the coveted underwear known as the Pile of Pants  (she seems to have become very attached to them!) and Suzie was last seen heading for Yorkshire to pick up a new member of the Williams family!
